Mechanism of Action/Target pathogen: Basilea's broad-spectrum antibiotic ceftobiprole gained regulatory approval in thirteen European countries for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) in adults, excluding ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). The drug was launched in Germany in the fourth quarter of 2014 with further European launches planned for 2015. Not approved by the FDA, so no US launch as of yet.
